You can enroll in Original Medicare Parts A and B during your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) which is;

 The 3 months before your 65th birthday month

 The month you turn 65

 The 3 months after your birthday month

If you are already receiving Social Security benefits four months prior to your 65th birthday month, you will automatically be enrolled in Original Medicare Parts A and B.

Once you have Original Medicare Parts A and B you can enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) or a stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan (Part D). Most Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug (Part D) coverage.
