Applying for Medicare is easy

If you’re enrolled in Original Medicare Parts A and B, you can add, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage plan at certain times during the year. If you haven’t enrolled in Medicare, learn more about the initial enrollment period (IEP), the seven-month window you have when you're turning 65.

There are periods each year when you can apply for a Medicare Advantage plan

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)

October 15 to December 7

AEP is a window of time when you can add, drop or switch Medicare plans.

The Special Enrollment Period (SEP)

This is an additional window of time, outside of Annual Enrollment, when you can switch or join plans because of life changes, such as losing coverage or moving.

Some situations that apply,

  • You move to a new address. If there are new plans to consider, you can switch, even if your plan covers the area to which you moved.
  • Your current plan is no longer available.

You qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid and can now enroll in a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP).
